Video Description
Navigating the difference between service animals, emotional support animals, and the laws and regulations that impact individuals with disabilities use of them at work, at home, in public, etc. is not always easy for rehabilitation professionals or for their clients. This is a highly interactive session that engages participants and tests their current knowledge of this subject, particularly how it relates to the ADA and employment, as well as the CRCC Code of Ethics. Canine Companions for Independence and Assistance Dogs International will be highlighted as well!

Learning Objectives:
1) Participants will learn about the variety of services animals, the types of services they provide, and service animal etiquette.
2) Participants will gain a better understanding of how service animals and emotional support animals differ regarding state and federal laws.
3) Participants will be able to tell how the CRCC Code of Ethics relates to service animals, clients, provision of vocational rehabilitation services, multicultural competencies, etc.
Christa Martin – Brief Bio
Christa Martin, MRC, CRC is the Disability & Community Outreach Specialist for DirectEmployers Association (DE). DE is a non-profit member association built by employers, for employers. She works closely with DE’s 1k+ Member companies to implement better DEIAB strategies and connect them with Vocational Rehabilitation services, American Job Centers, Employment Networks, Community Rehabilitation Programs, and other DE Partners for improved recruitment and retention of individuals with disabilities. She also works closely with DE Partners to increase positive employment outcomes in competitive integrated employment for people with disabilities.
Christa previously worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist Certified with the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Employer Services Branch, as well as being the Disability Services Coordinator and a Psychology Professor at Kentucky State University. She is Treasurer of the National Rehabilitation Association of Job Placement & Development (NRAJPD) and their Division Representative to the National Rehabilitation Association (NRA) Board of Directors. She is a Past-President of the Bluegrass Reentry Council and Kentucky Job Placement & Development division, as well as a former NRA Secretary. Christa is also an APSE Member and presented for her fourth time at the National APSE Conference in June.
Christa is best known for her professional development trainings, especially regarding ethics, and is an experienced speaker at conferences and webinars on different topics of interest and research. She also co-authored and edited two textbook chapters for human services and rehabilitation counseling college students on Ethics & Ethical Decision Making and Resume Development. Christa has several years of administrative and business management experience across different industries. She received her CRC in 2012 and is LPCA qualified.
